First I'd like to wish everyone a wonderfull christmas. Okay enjoy my next blogpost!
Clear blue seas, lots of lizards, warm weather and the most important of all: the nicest people you will ever meet. Thailand is full of it. In 2012 I went to this beautiful country and I had the time of my life.
We went for 3 weeks and we did lots of things. We went horseback riding on the beach, shopping in Bangkok, bonfires, petting straydogs, ... It was absolutely the best vacation ever. I went with my parents, sister, my aunts and uncles. My uncle is a soldier in the military and he travels through Thailand a lot. He knows the best places. We had to take 2 airplanes to get there. One flight took about 6-7 hours to get is Abu Dhabi, a city in The United Arab Emirates. When we arrived, we had to wait another 3 hours to get our second plane. But I didn't mind. The people there were so friendly and kind. My dad was walking on crutches at that moment and there was a really long row of people who wanted to get their passport checked or something like that. Some of the airplane staff saw that my dad had trouble with walking for a long time, so they made us skip the row. We were really thankfull and it was one of the nicest things someone did for us. Also everyone who looked at us, always smiled, sometimes they even said hello. I really loved everyone there. Then it was time for our other flight. It also took 6-7 hours, but we then finally arrived in Thailand. You gotta know, We all wore very warm clothes because the weather in Belgium was reaaally cold. When we got out of the airport to take a cab to the city, We were overwhelmed with the warmth that came to us. We quickly took of our jackets and jumped into a pink cab. After 15 minutes we arrived in the city of Bangkok. It was so much fun! We checked in in our rooms, changed into less warm clothes and went to eat dinner. ( I did not got any jetlag, and I was reaally glad about that.)
We stayed in Bangkok for 1 night, and then we went to different islands. Such as Krabi, Ko Pha Ngan and Ko Samui. On the first island we visited, we stayed in a bungalow parc with a big pool. What I also really loved is that there was a hammock at every bungalow. And the best part of all: There was a small cafe from the owners were we could eat those delicious american pancakes. It was absolutely amazing. And there was this little dog, he would always come to me and play for hours. When we were there for about 3 days or so, a few people came up to us and asked if my sister and I could have a picture with them. Because we have blond hair and blue eyes, they wanted to show their friends a picture of us. We did that and it was really funny. As a gift, they gave us a really big shell. They were really friendly. Another day, some of the local people even asked us to be on their wedding pictures, it was so much fun! After a week, we went to another of these islands, and we went to another bungalow parc. It was all fun and games untill one day we were sitting at the beach. My sister and I went to collect shells and suddenly my uncle came to us and took us back to our parents. Apparently my dad saw a soldier making movements with his arms in a snake figure. He was confused and thought there were snakes coming out of the sea, but he then realised it was much more dangerous. It was a sign of a tsunami. Next thing we do is get back to the parc as fast as we can. We there heard there was a little earthquake but there was no harm. So we got to the pool of the parc and we went back with swimming. After about 3 minutes we suddenly hear a loud alarm. It was REALLY scary, because the owner of the parc began screaming and took me with her. She put me into her car and went to grab some other kids. But then my mom dragged me out of the car again and said: 'I'm not going to leave you with strangers, there's a tsunami alarm and we have to stay togheter.' At that point I began to cry because I was really scared and I thought I would die. ( I was 12 btw)
We stopped a cab and went to the highest spot of the island. There we waited for about 3 hours. We sat in a cab with 2 German people, 2 Australian people and one French guy. They calmed me down by making jokes and stuff. I am really thankfull for that, because I was just terrified. But then came some good news: There was no tsunami. There only was an earthquake in Puckett, and that was far from were we stayed. But everyone thought there would be a tsunami because of that. So when everybody heard that they could go home, they did. But our group decided to go eat at a local restaurant since we were starving. We drove around the neighbourhood, but we couldn't find anything because everything was closed. It felt really weird, like it was a ghost town. Eventually we found a place to eat and we enjoyed the rest of our evening. It was a real rollercoaster-day. Also that day was the day that my grandma had died for 3 years already. You may find this weird, but I still think she protected us that day. And I will always believe it.
The next couple of days were chill. We didn't do much, just laying on the beach and go shopping. It was by far the best vacation I ever went on. It was chill, terrifiyng, overwhelming and ofcourse, beautiful. I can't wait to go to Thailand again. Maybe we'll go again in 2018, but i'm not yet sure about that.
Here ends my blogpost. I hope you liked it!
